News Release (Toronto: August 9 2010):
Green Cricket, an online retailer specializing in environmental products, is pleased to be partnering with Clean Air Champions, a national charity focused on improving air quality, reducing climate change and fostering more sustainable, active lifestyles. The Champions are National Team, Olympic and Paralympic athletes who are passionate about these issues.
Clean Air Champions delivers educational, curriculum-connected programs that raise awareness and action related to air quality, climate change and health. In fact, Clean Air Champions is the only organization of its kind in North America delivering curriculum-connected programs on these interrelated, critical issues. The charity delivers its programs by engaging their Champions to educate and inspire their audiences via multi-media, interactive presentations in schools and communities across Canada. Several of CAC’s programs produce tangible results demonstrating reductions in greenhouse gases and increase in physical activity levels of youth across Canada. The Champions provide the personal touch that inspires their audiences to make lifestyle choices that will have a positive impact on the environment and their health. For more information about CAC’s programs and Champions please visit: http://www.cleanairchampions.ca/CAC/Default.aspx
Green Cricket and Clean Air Champions will be working together on a number of initiatives geared to raising funds for their educational programs. “As a retailer and developer of quality environmental products, Green Cricket’s mission is perfectly aligned with that of CAC; to enable consumers to make smart environmental choices that are good for our families and our planet. We do this by filtering all of the products through a rigorous quality screening process and providing complete transparency to consumers on our website as to how we assessed and rated each product” says Susan Mey, President and Founder of Green Cricket in Toronto. “
“Aligning our charity with Green Cricket makes sense from so many perspectives. Key to our mission is educating our audiences about wise lifestyle choices. By offering our Champions, our partners and audiences Green Cricket products we are making it easier for people to put their consumer spending behind top quality products that have less ecological and health impacts. We look forward to working with Green Cricket on new initiatives including a line of Clean Air Champions’ products” Deirdre Laframboise, Executive Director, Clean Air Champions.
To launch this partnership, Green Cricket will be donating 10% of all sales generated through its link on the Clean Air Champion website. http://www.cleanairchampions.ca/CAC/Default.aspx

Biodiversity is a term used to encompass all living organisms: from one celled amoeba, to insects, animals and plants. It encompasses the number, variety and variability of living organisms and how these change from one location to another and over time. Biodiversity includes diversity within species (genetic diversity), between species (species diversity) and between ecosystems (ecosystem diversity).
We are a group of youth from the Halton region in Ontario, Canada. We formed a year ago as a organizing committee for the 3rd annual E-POWER conference. We all see the environment as being important and understand that biodiversity is key to the function of our planet. We are very committed to local and international work that promotes, restores and protects biodiversity. We accomplish this through our youth conferences on environmental topics, forest restorations projects, and school outreach.
We have recently taken on the task of joining a group of International Youth to create the Global Youth Accord on Biodiversity. We were part of the Second International Youth Symposium on Biodiversity in July of 2009. This is where we met other youth from around the world also interested in Biodiversity work, and we were chosen to write the accord. This accord will be presented at the COP 10 in front of the world leaders. One of the youth involved, Kirsten Falkenburger was able to take on a larger role as the Youth Accord Administrator, helping lead the work internationally.
Although we do projects through out the year, our main goal is to attend COP 10 in Nagoya, Japan in October 2010.
As youth we are very interested in the international forum. We see the relevance and understand how we are all connected. We believe that we have a better grasp of this since we have been raised in the age of technology and web based communication. We also have a connection to the environment and see how our actions in the past have effected the present state of the earth, which make us fear for our future. We are passionate about this cause and feel like we can make a positive change, which is what fuels our work. We created the t-shirts to help support us in our journey and are thrilled about the success they are having.

We have now moved into our new warehouse home in Etobicoke with our partners, Green Earth Organics, and together we are dreaming up ways to bring a complete natural and organic lifestyle (GreenEarth with organic food, and GreenCricket with home and lifestyle products) right to your door. Just in time for the holidays!
We have created a unique lineup of GreenGift baskets that are both stylish… but also focus on eliminating waste by offering reusable containers, and minimizing the stuffing. After all, don’t we all know that baskets are stuffed because that makes you THINK you’re getting more? Why not just get more for what you pay for.
Also - this holiday we are offering FREE gift wrapping on gift items that you buy. We will use brown kraft paper, and a nice colorful ribbon (recycled paper or organic cotton)… just tell us you need it wrapped in your instruction box!
Happiness and Good Health to all of you for the Holidays and New Year!

Give Green to Charity!
Instead of buying green gifts for just family and friends, have you thought about donating those gifts to your favourite charity?
We recently received a large order from a customer who expressly wanted all of the product to be delivered to some of the needy charities in Toronto. This meant a gift of personal care products, and baby products to the young mothers and kids at Covenant House in Toronto, and a pallet full of paper products and household products to Women’s Habitat, a shelter in Etobicoke that assists women who are dealing with violence and abuse.

What a wonderful way to make a difference to the environment and the lives of those people depending on those Charities. Thank you to the Mather family! You have set a great example for all of us.
Healthy Season Greetings!

Going Green on the Links
By: Dan Levine
One of Ontario’s finest golf courses, Eagles Nest Golf Club has done exceptionally well since opening in May 2004. Since then, the accolades have piled up, including top spot on Score Golf Magazine’s recent list of the GTA’s best public courses.
Instead of resting on their laurels, Eagles Nest made a strong commitment to going green. For five years, ownership has worked to create an eco-friendly environment, beginning long before Ontario’s pesticide ban forced other courses to play catch-up.
“We’re well ahead of the competition,” says Steve Marshall, who oversees Sales and Marketing. “We did it before it was the thing to do.”
As part of their ongoing commitment, Eagles Nest recently teamed up with Green Cricket (www.greencricket.ca) to make the facility more eco-friendly. That partnership began when Green Cricket founder Susan Mey met with club ownership and suggested a variety of products for the clubhouse, restaurant, locker rooms and bathrooms.
“It was a no-brainer,” says Marshall, of the decision.

The green lifestyle store now supplies Eagles Nest with cleaning products and personal care amenities that can be found in the locker rooms. These naturally formulated products are biodegradable and made from ingredients like shea butter and aloe vera. The pro shop is also stocked with paraben-free sunscreen and non-deet bug spray.
“Everything is much less toxic now, and that’s fantastic,” says Marshall.
While the partnership with Green Cricket began this season, Eagles Nest was already a leader in creating an eco-friendly space. The club has long cut back on pesticide use and worked hard to find the proper, environmentally-safe chemicals.
“Our membership group understood that it would impact the course,” says Marshall, of the fescue and weeds that grew in. “Now, it looks just as great as year-one.”
Having received plenty of praise for the course’s quality, Eagles Nest can also claim to be a leader when it comes to going green.
